AAEP 360° Series

Dentistry or Stallion Reproduction
August 10-13, 2010
College Station, Texas
Available CE Hours: 36

A 360 degree continuing education experience is a full-circle approach to veterinary learning. In August, the AAEP’s new 360°series will offer intensive, in-depth and personal instruction in your choice of two important clinical areas: stallion reproduction and equine dentistry. Each topic will be explored through one-on-one instruction, the use of live animals and laboratory experience. Attendance for each topic is limited to a small group in order to ensure an optimal educational atmosphere. If you are a practitioner seeking to gain competency in either of these areas, the 360° series will provide the training you need. Both meetings will be held concurrently in College Station, Texas, at Texas A&M University.

• Develop skills for examination of the internal genitalia by palpation, ultrasonography and urethral endoscopy.
• Understand techniques to maximize ejaculation in an artificial vagina when using a mare or a breeding dummy as a mount source.
• Understand methods to induce ejaculation by chemical means.
• Understand techniques to best preserve semen quality when collected using an artificial vagina.
• Become familiar with, and apply, a battery of laboratory tests that can be used to assess varied aspects of sperm structure and function, as measures of semen quality.
• Develop laboratory skills and techniques to maximize semen quality following processing for cooled transport or cryopreservation.
• Develop laboratory skills for gradient centrifugation of semen to improve its quality.
• Improve competence in mare palpation as it applies to breeding by deep horn, low-dose insemination.
