Annual AAEP Awards

 
Nominations are now being accepted for  AAEP awards.  All award nominations must be received in
the AAEP office no later than May 17, 2010 . [Nominations will be accepted from AAEP members, constituent organizations and members of the equine community.]Award winners will be determined by the AAEP Nominating Committee and will then be presented to the Board of Directors for approval.  Award recipients will be presented with an award at the AAEP's Annual Convention.

 Lavin Cup
 
The Lavin Cup is named for A. Gary Lavin, VMD, a past president of the AAEP and active supporter of equine welfare issues.  This award recognizes a non-veterinary organization or individual that has demonstrated exceptional compassion or developed and enforced rules and guidelines for the welfare of the horse.  Click here to download the nomination form.

Distinguished Educator Award
 
To be awarded to an individual (educator, mentor, or CE provider) who by his or her actions and commitment has demonstrated a significant impact on the development and training of equine practitioners. Nominations are not limited to academicians, but are open to individuals who, through their ability, dedication, character and leadership have played an important role in the educational and career development of others. Distinguished Service Award
 
To be awarded to an individual who has provided exemplary service to the AAEP or a similar organization to the benefit of the horse, horse industry or the profession of equine veterinary medicine.  This award may be based upon a single achievement or a sustained effort in the form of AAEP committee work, service through other veterinary professional or equine-oriented organizations or employment by the AAEP.  George Stubbs Award
 
The George Stubbs Award recognizes the contributions made to equine veterinary medicine byindividuals other than veterinarians. The award is named for George Stubbs, the artist and teacher who played a vital role in veterinary education. Individuals eligible for this award are those persons who have not received a degree in medicine and do not practice veterinary medicine. However, the individual must have been directly responsible for performing an act or acts to benefit equine veterinary medicine in any or all of the following areas: leadership, public service, volunteer service, research findings, product development, public policy development, animal advocacy or humane education. Click here to download the nomination form.


Sage Kester Beyond the Call Award
 
This award is named in honor of its first recipient, the late General Wayne O. "Sage" Kester, DVM, and represents the highest honor bestowed by the AAEP upon a current or former member. The award is presented to an individual who has made significant and long-lasting contributions to equine veterinary medicine and the community.  A successful nominee for the Beyond the Call award should not only possess the qualities of a leader with a strong commitment to the health and welfare of the horse, but also impact and improve the lives of others through service above self.  Each nominee should have a record of active, meaningful involvement in the American Association of Equine Practitioners and dedicated service to activities that have made their community a better place to live.
