| Type of Practice: 80% equine, 20% small animal (dog and cat). The equine practice consists of approximately 20% surgery, 20% performance (hunter/jumper, eventing, reining, roping, racing, etc.), 5% reproduction, 25% pleasure/health care , 20% medical and 10% emergency. The practice is a general and referral, high quality, high-end practice. |
| Facilities: Hospital facilities include a complete in-house laboratory, surgery, outpatient stocks, 7 stalls, portable and in hospital radiology, ultrasongraphy, endoscopy, video endoscopy, shock wave generator, motorized dentistry, embryo transfer and arthroscopy. The practice is fully computerized, including in the field.

Estimated Breakdown of Daily or Weekly Load: Clinic hours are from 7:30am to 5:30pm weekdays, and from 8am to 12noon on Saturdays. Sometimes the daily work load exceeds the scheduled hours. The intern will be given 1/2 day per week and every other Saturday off |
Philosophy of Internship: This internship is designed to introduce and familiarize the intern with quality referral and general equine practice, which includes many advance modalities and techniques. If mutually agreeable, the length of term may be extended at increased compensation. A primarily ambulatory with some hospital exposure internship is also available. |
Prerequisites of Application and Internship: Application, transcript and three letters of reference. A license to practice in Arizona is required (may be pending board examination at the time of application.) Applicants are given preference if they have visited the practice and an externship with the practice is highly recommended. Deadline for application is January 15 of the year of internship applied for. |

List of Internship Duties in Practice: Duties to include responding to calls in the field and in hospital. Additional duties will vary and will include shared care of hospitalized patients on nights and weekends, emergency duties, running anesthesia, and assisting in surgery. The internship is 100% equine, however small animal exposure may be available to those interns who have an interest. |
Emergency Duty Requirements: Intern will be assigned a share of hospital and primary care emergencies. |
Amount of Supervision: Initial supervision will be 100%. After the intern is comfortable performing duties, the amount of supervision will vary on the caseload for that day. Much of the later duties will be unsupervised. |
Internship Salary: $2500.00 per month with benefits |
Term of Employment: July 1 to June 30 |
