AVMA-Recognized SpecialtiesProfessional degrees Authors who have graduated from a veterinary degree program should use the degree actually granted; authors whose degree is something other than DVM or VMD should not substitute DVM or VMD. The most commonly encountered veterinary professional degrees are listed below:
BVMS BVSc DMV Dr med vet DVM Dr vet med DVSc MV VMD For the Dr med vet and Dr vet med degrees, the m and v may be uppercase or lowercase, according to the author’s preference. Diplomate status Authors who are diplomates of specialty organizations recognized by the AVMA should indicate their diplomate status. The following abbreviations should be used. We do not indicate subspecialty (eg, DACVIM¾Specialty of Cardiology; DABVP¾Specialty of Canine and Feline Practice).
