Welcome to the Submission Page for the 2010 AAEP annual meeting in Baltimore, MD. Each year the Business Management Sub-committee of the Educational Program Committee will select a theme for the annual meeting. The theme for the 2010 meeting is “Profitability”. The theme is broad to allow for a multitude of possible titles for consideration in each of our “How To” and in-depth “Business Education & Life Style” sessions, as well as the VetPartners Interactive Workshop. Areas for consideration for presentations include, but are not limited to: inventory issues, detection and prevention of embezzlement, improved efficiency of staff, and improving financial aspects of equine practice operations. As you can see everything in P #1 “How To” Paper Guidelines “How To” papers are presented to describe and explain a method or protocol for improving an equine practitioners practice as soon as they get back to the office. The topic needs to be timely to the busy equine practitioner with easy steps for implementation. Each presentation will be 20 minutes in length with an additional 10 minutes for question and answers. The title should begin with “How to…” and clearly identify the topic to be presented. Make sure your name and contact information is included beneath the title of the program. A “take away” section should be included with an explanation of the steps to accomplish the “How to” along with a means to monitor the outcome. By March 15, 2010, 3:00 p.m. ET send your completed paper covering how this session will aid the equine practitioner. In submitting your “How to” topic for review include at least a one page description of the session. Include in the paper, sections on the relevance of the topic to the equine practitioner, goals for the session, and “take away” steps for implementing the topic once the practitioner arrives home. These papers will be completed papers ready for publishing in the proceedings for the 2010 AAEP Annual Convention. If selected the committee may ask for minor editing before submission to the AAEP office.
#2 Business Education & Life Style Sessions Guidelines The “Business Education & Life Style” sessions will be in-depth presentations on improving equine practitioners “Profitability”. These sessions are intended to take a topic from its importance to the practitioner, to how to implement, and finally a “Take Home Message”. The sessions will be 50 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for questions and answers. By March 15, 2010, 3:00 p.m. ET send an abstract of your presentation covering how this session will aid the equine practitioner, a brief description of the topic, and the anticipated take home message. The abstract should at least 600 words and not in bullet point or outline format. If your paper has been selected a member of the Business Education Subcommittee will contact you by April 15, 2010. The instructions for your manuscript for publication in the proceedings are in the following paragraphs. The final manuscript will need to be sent to AAEP office by May 15, 2010 for review by the Business Education Subcommittee. In submitting an abstract of Business Education & Life Style topics include at least a two-page description of the topic with three sections. Make sure your name and contact information is included beneath the title of the program. Section one will discuss the relevance of the topic to improving the profitability of the equine practitioner. This is an overview of the subject matter. Section two will briefly discuss how you plan to cover the topic. We are not asking for a detailed explanation but more of an overview of how and what points you plan on discussing for the topic. This will have a logical flow of how a practitioner can use this once he gets back to the practice. The final section will contain a Summary of the topic with a proposed “Take Home Message” for the practitioner. Included in this section will be proposed metrics for evaluating the success of the program for the practitioner.
#3 VetPartners Interactive Workshop This year the Practice Management Subcommittee is seeking papers presented by VetPartner members in a workshop format. The session will be for an entire afternoon at the annual AAEP convention. The workshop needs to be an interactive program on some aspect of improving the profitability of an equine practice. The session is a combination of lecturing and hands on discussion with the attendees, helping them to recognize and implement change in their practice. The session will be a half day in length. One or more individuals can present this session. These individuals need to understand the struggles of the equine practitioners, presenting it in a manner that provides many easily implemented take home points. By March 15, 2010, 3:00 p.m. ET send an abstract of your presentation covering how this session will aid the equine practitioner, a brief description of the topic, and the anticipated take home message(s).
