Educational Partners

As part of our mission to bring you the highest level of professional development, the AAEP has teamed with industry partners who share a commitment to advancing the equine veterinary profession and supporting your AAEP membership.

Since its inception in 1998, the AAEP Educational Partners Program has aligned the association with 10 industry partners to help gain funding to enhance membership benefits, provide educational opportunities and make a greater impact on the health and welfare of the horse. These win-win partnerships also provide unmatched incentives to selected Educational Partners that have shown continual support of the AAEP and its programs.

  Bayer HealthCare Animal Health
As a world leader in animal health, Bayer HealthCare Animal Health is committed to providing quality equine products that are backed by clinical research and are FDA approved. For many years, Bayer HealthCare has been the exclusive sponsor of the AAEP Resort Symposium and the annual Focus meeting during the summer. In addition they will be a co-sponsor of the 2010 Sport Horse Symposium. Bayer collaborates with the AAEP on a variety of educational initiatives, including the production of the popular client education brochure series. Their support of the equine veterinarian locator service, GET-A-DVM, helps horse owners find an AAEP-member veterinarian in locations currently throughout the United States and Canada. This service helps drive wellness-conscious horse owners to your practice. In 2009, Bayer continued as the exclusive sponsor of the popular AAEP Keynote Address at its Annual Convention. Bayer also sponsored the In-Depth: Pre-Purchase Exam session. In addition to the broad support of AAEP, Bayer also sponsored the 2009 American Association of Equine Veterinary Technician and Assistants (AAEVT) Convention welcome reception. They also continue to annually support the AAEP Foundation.

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc. (BIVI) is a long-time AAEP Educational Partner. For nearly two decades BIVI has assisted equine veterinarians with business issues through its annual sponsorship of the AAEP Practice Management Seminar, and this year, is sponsor of the new Business Education Workshops. In addition they co-sponsored the 2009 Focus on Ophthalmology meeting and will be a co-sponsor of the 2010 Sport Horse Symposium. BIVI also is the exclusive sponsor of the 2010 360° Series on Dentistry and Stallion Reproduction. Boehringer Ingelheim also supports the AAEP Foundation with annual donations and has sponsored many of the Foundation’s research meetings. During the 2009 Annual Convention they sponsored the In-Depth: Colic session and Best Practices for Equine Practitioners – Racing and Performance Horses, as well as co-sponsors again for the convention Welcome Reception.

IDEXX Laboratories is focused on equine care and the practitioners who provide it. From diagnostics and consulting to treatment and follow-up monitoring, they can be relied upon for an extensive range of practical, effective solutions - solutions that help practice better medicine by providing the diagnostic answers needed, streamlining businesses and giving more time to work with patients and clients. Together with the AAEP, IDEXX is a proud partner in advancing equine health. As the industry searches for new and better ways of diagnosing and treating equine diseases, IDEXX continues to support these efforts by supporting the AAEP and AAEP Foundation and its efforts through scholarships, research fellowships, equine medical research and education. During the 2009 Annual Convention, IDEXX sponsored the Imaging I session.

  Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health
Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is for the horse. That’s why their products, programs and partnerships all focus on the long-term health and welfare of the horse. Of course, Intervet/Schering-Plough knows that in order to support the horse, first and foremost the company must support the equine veterinarian. Based on this philosophy, Intervet/Schering-Plough has created a platform that embraces the mission of the AAEP and supports a number of AAEP educational opportunities. In 2008 they partnered with the AAEP launching the successful Unwanted Horse Veterinary Relief Campaign, a program which helps supply vaccines to rescue and retirement facilities within the U.S. In 2009, they were co-sponsors of the Focus on Ophthalmology and in 2010 will be a co-sponsor of the 2010 Sport Horse Symposium. They also sponsored the Medicine – Neurology and Pregnant Mare sessions during the AAEP's Annual Convention in 2009, as well as the Expo Card and CE/convention evaluation kiosk stations. Intervet/Schering-Plough also hosted and sponsored the AAEP Foundation benefit golf tournament in 2008 and 2009. The company continues to annually support the AAEP Foundation.

  Luitpold Pharmaceuticals
Luitpold Pharmaceuticals’ dedication to continuous learning and love of the horse is a common bond for those working in the equine industry and in veterinary medicine. As an AAEP Educational Partner, Luitpold is proud to share in the commitment to improve the health and welfare of the horse. The team at Luitpold is proud to work side-by-side with AAEP members while providing treatments and tools to improve the health and well-being of the horses under their care. In 2009 Luitpold was a co-sponsor of the Focus on Ophthalmology meeting and will be a co-sponsor of the 2010 Sport Horse Symposium. At the 2009 Annual Convention they sponsored the Lameness I session and the New Practitioner Luncheon. In addition they sponsored the pens supplied to all 2009 convention attendees. They also continue to annually support the AAEP Foundation.

  Merial
Merial is the AAEP’s newest Educational Partner, joining the program in 2009. Merial is a world-leading, innovation-driven animal health company, providing a comprehensive range of products to enhance the health, well-being and performance of a wide range of animals. As a committed partner to equine practitioners and their clients, Merial has been active in supporting the AAEP previously through the sponsorship of key events and programs during the Annual Convention. That support continued as Merial sponsored the Business “How to” session, Non-Pregnant Mare and Stallion session, and the Imaging II during the 2009 Annual Convention. In addition, Merial has annually sponsored the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians and Assistants (AAEVT) convention, which is held in conjunction with the AAEP Annual Convention. Merial also has supported the Farrier Short Course program for AAEP Student Chapters by helping supply equipment and shipping to the schools for these educational programs. They also continue to annually support the AAEP Foundation.

  Nutrena
Nutrena, part of the Cargill Animal Nutrition business, has been an Educational Partner of the AAEP since 2001. Nutrena is committed to excellence in equine nutrition and education particularly in support of equine veterinarians. Nutrena has created several key educational tools including a client education DVD series and the Equine Nutrition Veterinary Field Guide for use in the nutritional management of clinical disorders. During the 2009 Annual Convention, Nutrena sponsored the Medicine – GI session and continues to annually support the AAEP Foundation.

  Pfizer Animal Health
Pfizer Animal Health strives to improve horse health by helping to build strong relationships between veterinarians and horse owners. Pfizer offers cutting-edge new products, as well as long-trusted brands. By providing a range of products backed by the highest standards of scientific research, Pfizer has become a comprehensive resource for equine veterinarians throughout the world. As a long-time Educational Partner with the AAEP, Pfizer sponsors student programs throughout the year such as the Equine Dentistry Short Course and Equine Emergency & Disaster Preparedness presentations that take place at AAEP Student Chapters across North America and the West Indies. During the AAEP 2009 Annual Convention, Pfizer Animal Health sponsored the In-Depth: Anesthesia and Pain Management session and the new Equitarian Initiative session. In addition, Pfizer continues to co-sponsor the daily Table Topic sessions at convention. They also continue to annually support the AAEP Foundation.

  Platinum Performance
As a company dedicated to increasing the role of nutrition in veterinary practice, Platinum Performance is pleased to have renewed its commitment as an AAEP Educational Partner. Platinum Performance continues its mission of providing veterinarians and their clients a full line of high-quality nutritionals. As a veterinarian-owned company, Platinum Performance is dedicated to providing fellow veterinary practitioners with high-quality and effective preventative and interventional nutritional products. A dedication to the advancement of veterinary medicine, equine health and nutritional research has prompted Platinum Performance to partner with the AAEP to provide cutting-edge nutritional education for veterinarians and their clients. Platinum Performance annually sponsors the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture, convention hotel key cards and transportation for the Foundation Celebration. In 2009, they also sponsored the Lameness – Racing session. They also continue to annually support the AAEP Foundation with donations and support as a co-sponsor of the “Winner’s Circle Scholarship” program which provides scholarships to one person at each of the 36 schools that have an AAEP Student Chapter.

  Purina
Purina is the largest supplier of animal nutrition products in the United States and has a rich history of supporting AAEP educational projects. Along with the development of several AAEP client education brochures on nutrition, Purina’s Horse Owner Workshop Series (H.O.W.) and the Purina Horse Health Fairs, geared more toward the health of the senior horse they support members in reaching out directly to horse owners. Each of these workshops travel the country bringing owners, AAEP veterinarians and Purina Gold dealers together for the health of the horse. Purina annually sponsors the AAEP Student Chapter Farrier Short Courses, which provides state-of-the-art podiatry education to veterinary students involved in AAEP Student Chapters throughout North America and the West Indies. In addition, Purina sponsors cash stipends, in conjunction with the AAEP Foundation, that are awarded to students and student chapters to help them attend the AAEP Annual Convention. Purina also was sponsor of the Medicine – Foal session, convention lanyards and the AAEP Convention Student Program. They also continue to annually support the AAEP Foundation with special donations.

Media Partners

The AAEP Media Partner program, which started in 2006, was developed as a way to provide added value to the AAEP membership through the access to publications of interest to members and their clients. In addition, this partnership provides added value to the media outlet providing them with access to AAEP members for the development of articles, programs and more. The AAEP collaborates with these partners on various projects and efforts to keep both members and their horse owning clients informed about important horse health information. In addition, it provides a venue for all partners to increase the exposure of their brands to various important audiences.

  EQUUS
EQUUS magazine, which celebrated its 33rd anniversary in publication in 2010, helps horse owners achieve a better understanding and appreciation of the nature and needs of the horse. Written for horse owners, the magazine explores topics ranging from the latest developments in veterinary science to the horse’s remarkable relationship with humans. This enhanced relationship with EQUUS provides an outstanding opportunity to AAEP veterinarians and serves as a platform to deliver accurate and meaningful horse health information through multiple educational venues. With a strong history of support for the AAEP, EQUUS annually is the exclusive sponsor of the AAEP Cyber Café providing complimentary Internet access to all convention attendees. EQUUS is provided as a member benefit to AAEP members in the United States.

  The Horse: Your Guide To Equine Health Care
The Horse: Your Guide To Equine Health Care is dedicated to educating horse owners with information based on scientific research, explained by experts. AAEP member veterinarians are important partners in this process, acting as idea generators, sources, and reviewers for print and electronic projects. The Horse encourages the special relationship between the horse owner and veterinarian. With its long history of support of the AAEP membership, The Horse became an AAEP Media Partner to help educate horse owners for the benefit of all horses. The Horse promotes that a veterinarian is a horse owner’s best resource when it comes to the health and care of that animal. The Horse magazine is provided in a hard copy form as a member benefit to AAEP members and student members in the United States, and it is available free online through EPub Express for all International DVM and student members.

Alliance Partners

The AAEP Alliance Partner program, which started in 2002, provides the AAEP and the each alliance partner, the opportunity to work in collaboration to educate horse owners and each group’s members about their association, breed, discipline and equine horse health. The goal of this program for the AAEP is to create more knowledgeable clients for AAEP members and to keep industry partners informed on important developments in horse health. Through this program, the AAEP is fortunate to have created long lasting relationships with some of the most well respected associations around the world.

  Arabian Horse Association
In 2004, the AAEP and the Arabian Horse Association (AHA)
formed an alliance to help educate horse owners about quality
health care for the Arabian breed. The AHA and the AAEP share
a strong tradition of education as well as a love of the horse. With so many AAEP members involved in the hands-on care of this popular breed, partnership with the AHA is a natural extension of the veterinary care that is already provided on an individual basis. The partnership will focus on the presentation of health information to AHA members through publications as well as veterinary speakers at selected AHA national shows.

  Appaloosa Horse Club
The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) was established in 1938, with a mission of preserving, promoting and enhancing the Appaloosa breed. The ApHC has since registered more than 670,000 Appaloosas, which are known for their distinctive color, intelligence and even temperament. True to their reputation as an extremely versatile breed, Appaloosas can be found in nearly every discipline, including racing, dressage, rodeo, endurance riding or serving as reliable family horses. The international breed registry is headquartered in Moscow, Idaho, the heart the Palouse region – the Appaloosa breed’s namesake and point of origin.




  American Quarter Horse Association
The AAEP is proud to share in an educational alliance with the American Quarter Horse Association. This alliance, formed in 2002, was created to help provide mutually beneficial resources and information to horse owners, members and the equine industry concerning professional horse handling methods and state of the art horse health information. The AAEP serves as the Health Authority for AQHA's educational initiatives while the AQHA provides professionals for AAEP member sessions on horsemanship topics.

  Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association
TOBA, based in Lexington, KY was formed in 1961 and is a national trade organization of leading Thoroughbred horse breeders and owners. TOBA’s mission is to “improve the economics, integrity and pleasure of the sport on behalf of Thoroughbred owners and breeders.” Projects managed by TOBA include the American Graded Stakes committee, The Greatest Game, Inc., Claiming Crown and America’s Day at the Races. TOBA is also represented on the Board of Directors of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association as a founding member and on the American Horse Council. The Blood-Horse is a publication of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. More information on TOBA appears on www.toba.org.

  U.S. Equestrian Federation, Inc.
In 2003 the AAEP aligned with the USA Equestrian (now the U.S. Equestrian Federation) as an Alliance Partner. The two organizations share a common objective with each of their respective missions embracing the value of the welfare of the horse. The alliance is dedicated to educating horse owners about quality equine-health practices and endeavoring to provide AAEP members to serve as event veterinarians at USEF events nationwide.

  United States Dressage Federation
Founded in 1973, the United States Dressage Federation was established for the purpose of promoting and encouraging a high standard of accomplishment in dressage throughout the U.S., primarily through educational programs. Award opportunities exist for every level of competition, and there are special categories for different breeds, as well as for juniors/young riders, adult amateurs and riders aged 50 and over. USDF's educational programs include instructor certification, symposia, trainers' conferences, a university program and clinics for juniors/young riders and adults. USDF also produces many educational videos and publications for show management, officials, show volunteers and competitors.
