24 - 25 2012 AAEP Colorado State University Equine Symposium
This course is available for the practitioner looking to learn with a fresh crowd! The student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners is hosting a two-day lecture series to provide an educational opportunity for veterinarians in practice and current veterinary students. On Saturday, March 24, the focus will be on lameness. The schedule includes an in depth series of lectures on the suspensory apparatus followed by lectures revolving around injury prevention, regenerative therapies for soft tissue injuries and osteoarthritis treatments. On Saturday evening there will be a sponsored dinner with keynote speaker Dr. Wayne McIlwraith. The lecture series on Sunday, March 25, will focus on internal medicine and theriogenology, including topics such as the problem mare, infectious disease, critical care and endocrine disorders. There will be optional round table discussions during the lunch hour to provide a forum of discussion with regards to alternative therapies and career options.

Sixteen CE credits available. Standard registration is $175 and required one month prior to the course.

7 Basic Arthroscopy
To be held at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Presented by Drs. Wayne McIlwraith, David Frisbie, Chris Kawcak and Laurie Goodrich. The course teaches the principles of equine arthroscopy including instrumentation and basic techniques, diagnostic arthroscopy of the carpus and fetlock joints; arthroscopic surgery of the carpus for osteochondral chip fragment removal and arthroscopic surgery of the dorsal compartment of the fetlock joint for proximal P1 chips, villonodular synovitis and OCD. The morning program will consist of lectures and video demonstration. The afternoon will be a laboratory with participants performing arthroscopic surgery using video under supervision of the instructors.

8 - 9 Advanced Arthroscopy
Presented by Drs. Wayne McIlwraith, David Frisbie, Chris Kawcak and Laurie Goodrich together with guest lecturers Drs. Alan Nixon (Cornell University) and Dr. Ian Wright (Newmarket Equine Hospital). This course will provide detailed instruction on arthroscopic techniques at the advanced level. Material presented and performed in the laboratory will include advanced arthroscopic surgery of the carpus, including internal fixation of the carpal slab fractures, arthroscopy of the palmar pouches for fragmentation of the carpal canal tenoscopy of osteochondroma removal, arthroscopic surgery of the palmar (plantar) poush of the fetlock joint abaxial and bisilar sesamold fragment removal, repair of distal metacarpal and condylar fractures under arthroscopic guidance, femoropatellar and femorotibial arthroscopic surgery, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and tenoscopic surgery in the carpal and digital synovial sheaths as well as bursoscopy. Drs. McIlwraith, Nixon and Wright are the co-authors of the 3rd edition of the text "Diagnostic and Surgical Arthroscopy in the Horse" and are currently co-authoring the 4th edition.
