The 11th Congress of the World Equine Veterinary Association will be hosted by the Brazilian Association of Equine Veterinarians (ABRAVEQ) and the Brazilian Confederation of Equestrian Sports (CBH).

Harlton’s Equine Specialties and Veterinary Dental Products will be offering two different Equine Dentistry Short Courses. The first, Fundamentals of Equine Dentistry, is a basic course and has been offered for the last four years. The second is an advanced equine dentistry course. Both of these courses will be held at the new Oquendo Center for Clinical Education in Las Vegas, Nev. The fee for both courses is $1,500, excluding transportation and lodging. 12 - 15 Equine Biomechanics, Applied Anatomy and Gait Abnormalities
Dr. Hilary Clayton, BVMS, PhD, MRCVS, will hold a course reviewing basic equine anatomy, conformation evaluation and movement analysis. In addition, participants will learn to recognize gait abnormalities and specific musculoskeletal abnormalities. This course is held at Michigan State University research center enabling Dr. Clayton access to the equipment she utilizes for her research.

The Mary Anne McPhail Equine Performance Center at Michigan State is a well-equipped facility for research in the area of equine gait analysis. Equipment includes a motion analysis system, AMTI force plate, Noraxon EMG system, Pliance saddle pressure pad and other custom equipment for making measurements of horses and riders.

23 - 26 Principles of Saddle Fitting and Shoeing Dynamics
Dr. Kerry Ridgeway, DVM, of the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society presents a course on saddle fitting and shoeing issues. He presents this course with slides, examples of trees, pads, saddles, shoes, wedges, measuring devices, templates, demonstrations and a variety of horses with saddle fitting and shoeing issues in this four-day clinic. Saddle fiting topics and practices encompass 85 percent of the course, with the remainder addressed at hoof imbalances and issues we should look for in the foot and how it can also affect saddle fit.

4 - 6 Diagnosis & Treatment of Lameness in the Horse
This three-day course is designed to update the practitioner on the current concepts of etiology, diagnosis and management of the various conditions causing lameness in horses. The course begins with a discussion of the visual aspects of lameness diagnosis (including videos), followed by the interpretation of the various manipulative and palpation tests. Approaches to diagnostic anesthesia are also discussed in detail. Following this the various diseases affecting the fore and hind limbs, and back regions of the horse are reviewed. Radiographic evaluation of these regions will also be discussed in detail. Additionally, the principles of diagnosis and treatment of synovitis/capsulitis, developmental orthopedic disease and tendon and ligament injuries will also be discussed. The four-hour lab on the final day of the course allows the participant to practice diagnostic anesthesia approaches and to perform the various surgical procedures on cadaver limbs that were discussed in lecture. Worth 24 hours of continuing education.
