Funding/Grants

The AAEP Foundation accepts equine specific funding requests that are dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse.  Funds are awarded to those requests that have the most impact on a national and/or international level.

Unfortunately, the AAEP Foundation does not grant funds to facilities that care for unwanted or retirement horses.  This includes horses that may have been abandoned, abused or neglected.  The AAEP Foundation focuses its efforts and funds for this population of horses through its assistance to the Unwanted Horse Coalition  and related programs.

To be considered for funding by the AAEP Foundation, completed applications must be received by May 1. Applications may be submitted from Feb. 1 to May 1.

Applications for Emergency Funds or Equine Disaster Relief may be submitted at any time. Review and approval of these funds will be at the discretion of the AAEP Foundation.

Click here to download the Funding Application and Instructions for ApplyingIf you would like to receive the Funding Application as a Word document, please contact Jodie Bingham, Foundation development coordinator, at jbingham@aaep.org.

Requests for funding submitted without a completed application will not be considered.

The AAEP Foundation does not grant funds for individual equine research projects, but it does provide funds for projects or events that support the coordination of equine research. (Example:  Support of the 2009 Equine Laminitis Research Workshop, Support of the 2007 Lameness Research Meeting and Panel, 2006 Equine Research Summit, and 2005 Equine Colic Symposium.)

Individuals interested in equine research or scholarship funding should refer to the Research or Scholarship headings on the Foundation Web site.
