Avenues (Old)
AAEP Avenues is a program designed to encourage current veterinary students and new graduates to take advantage of the practical training in medicine and practice management offered by AAEP-member practices. Externships and internships allow students and new veterinarians to learn and perfect technical and client skills. Practices benefit from the enthusiastic help of the extern or intern, as well as their access to recent clinical information and new ideas.
AVENUES MISSON STATEMENT: The AAEP Avenues program's mission is to further the professional development of it's members and provide resources, leadership and mentorship for the new generation of equine prctitioners in order to improve the health and welfare of the horse.

MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR PRACTICES TO HOST AN INTERNSHIP: All AAEP Avenues practices are asked to fulfill each intern's AAEP membership dues (U.S. $65), if the intern is a recent graduate (a graduate of a veterinary school within the last year). Dues notices will be mailed to each Avenues practice prior to June 1.
As an added benefit to interns, the American Livestock Insurance Company (ALSIC) will sponsor membership dues of any recent graduate for one year following the conclusion of their Avenues internship position, provided they were a national AAEP student member. Therefore, it is to the student and practice's advantage if the incoming intern is a current national student member of the AAEP. Please note--in order for dues to be $65/intern, the recent graduate(s) must have been a national student member of the AAEP in good standing prior to graduation, otherwise, dues are $115.
