Types of AAEP Membership
Dues rates effective 7/1/2009
Regular Member
To qualify, an applicant must be a resident or citizen of the United States or Canada who is a graduate from a college or school of veterinary medicine or is licensed in good standing to practice veterinary medicine in the United States or Canada with an expressed interest in the equine species. Applicant must provide a photocopy of his/her diploma or license.
Cost: $295 dues + $50 new member initiation fee ($345)
Dues Cycle: July 1 –June 30
International Member
To qualify, an applicant must be a citizen of a country other than the United States or Canada who is a graduate from a college or school of veterinary medicine or is licensed in good standing to practice veterinary medicine in their borne country with an expressed interest in the equine species. Applicant must provide a photocopy of his/her diploma or license.
Cost: $295 dues + $50 new member initiation fee ($345)
Dues Cycle: July 1–June 30
Note: International members do not receive EQUUS or Compendium.
Student Member
To qualify, an applicant must be a student currently enrolled in a college of veterinary medicine with an expressed interest in the equine species.
Cost: $35
Dues Cycle: Sept 1–August 31
Note: Students cannot attend Wet labs and do not receive EVE (but do get The Mentor e-newsletter for students).
Recent Graduate Member
To qualify, an applicant must have graduated from a college or school of veterinary medicine.
Cost: $75 dues + $50 new member initiation fee (2009 grads; 1st year of practice)
$150 dues + $50 new member initiation fee (upcoming; 2nd year of practice)
$225 + $50 new member initiation fee (upcoming; 3rd year of practice)
Dues Cycle: July 1
–June 30
Restrictions: To continue receiving these discounts, membership must be continuous. AAEP student members are asked to convert to regular members when they graduate. As an incentive the AAEP waives the $50 initiation fee if they do this before their student memberships lapses.
Residents and Ph.D. students
Applicants must be actively enrolled in a residency program or equine-related, post-DVM Ph.D. program. Yearly proof via a letter from their advisor must be submitted to AAEP.
Cost: $125 dues + $50 new member initiation fee
Dues Cycle: July 1-June 30
