"On Call" Practitioners to Assist Kentucky Derby Telecast
April 29, 2009
Equine surgeon Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, supported by Scott Hopper, DVM, will assist NBC Sports, ESPN and the Bravo Network with horse-health information during the May 1 and 2 live-racing telecasts at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. As representatives of the AAEP’s “On Call” program, Drs. Bramlage and Hopper will provide timely health reports to the media and the public regarding the athletes in the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby-day races.
Funded in part by the prestigious Oak Tree Racing Association, the “On Call” program serves nearly 100 televised equine events annually. More than 25 AAEP-member veterinarians in the United States and Canada share their veterinary expertise as “On Call” spokespersons.
The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its 9,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
