Students

The  AAEP is dedicated to helping you reach your goals in equine veterinary medicine by providing resources to you through your school's student chapter. Many of the tools you will need to become a successful equine practitioner, researcher or leader in the profession are available through an AAEP student chapter.

Organization

Each student chapter is formed and operated under an official charter granted by the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Chapters must adhere to the approved AAEP constitution and bylaws. Amendments must gain approval of the AAEP. Each student chapter has at least four officers - president, president-elect, secretary and treasurer. One faculty advisor is elected by the chapter from the faculty of the college of veterinary medicine where the student chapter is organized.

Objectives

An AAEP student chapter should strive to enhance the educational opportunities of the professional students at the college of veterinary medicine they attend; to inform student about veterinary related problems currently affecting the horse industry; and to promote the exchange of professional knowledge among students and practitioners for the advancement of equine health.

Faculty Advisors

Each AAEP student chapter is required to have a faculty advisor who is a member of the AAEP. The faculty advisor provides a direct link between the AAEP and its student members. They must be members in good standing with the AAEP. They assist the student chapter and its officers to promote understanding of the equine veterinary medical profession and its relationship to the general public. Advisors bridge communication between the Association and its student members.

Chapter Membership vs. National Membership

The AAEP currently has 34 student chapters at North American veterinary schools, and we're growing.  Each chapter may have its own local dues, therefore, you can hold either a chapter or national membership, or both.  If you are not already an AAEP Student National member, learn more about the excellent benefits you will receive.
